A household name in the Ghanaian comedy scene, Foster Romanus has asserted that the lockdown and ban on social gatherings as part of measures to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country made him realize how important the audience is to comedy performances.
According to him, regardless of comedians holding virtual shows and reaching their targets, the feel or energy is not the same.
Speaking at a virtual convocation on the theme; ‘100 Days of COVID-19 in Ghana; Learnings in the Entertainment Industry’ on the Y-Triangle, Foster Romanus said, “We share energy with our audience and we need their energy to flow. Their laughter gives us the urge to do more and explore but the online and virtual concerts do not give us that opportunity.”
The comedian admitted that he has really missed the audience and their infectious response and reaction to their jokes.
To him, just seeing the audience laugh and their facial expressions helps him to improvise and contextualize his jokes.
Ghana has not been spared with the COVID-19 pandemic rampaging the globe. The outbreak of the virus has not only impacted economies but has also affected the entertainment industry.
