Renowned Ghanaian Businessman, Dr. Kofi Amoah, has said the youths can be assured of reaching their highest potential if only they are ready to take “educated” risks in life.
According to him, one can never reach his or her potential if they are afraid of the unknown.
Speaking to YFM’s Rev. Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series, Dr. Amoah shared his own experience of positive risks he took in life and how that has benefitted him.
He relates, “For me, it has been one of personal challenges and for me to tell myself that ‘I have a good job here but I think I can do better so I am going to take a chance; I am going to leave this job and go out there and see what I can do’. Now that comes with risk because without the comfort of a sturdy income, you are going out there to face a lot of challenges. I did face a lot of challenges. I was repossessed at a point because my first business did not work. I didn’t have a car because I couldn’t make payment. I left the comfort of a paycheck to go look for success. I thought to myself that I can do better. But that step comes with risk. But I don’t regret it”.
From his experience, he advised, “The problem is that people who have great potential never really reach that potential because of fear of the unknown. If you are afraid of the unknown, you will never know how high you can go. So at some point you must be willing to take a chance. Of course it should be an educated chance not a foolish chance”.
Dr. Amoah is well-known for his feats in the business world. For example, as Chief Executive Officer of Progeny Ventures, he facilitated the entry of global remittance service provider, Western Union, into Africa. Western Union started its African operations from Ghana in 1995. Twelve years on, the company had expanded its operations to almost all 54 African states.
