Chief Executive Officer of global music distribution company, Crux Global, Kofi Kyei also known as Funkz has revealed that Ghana’s music industry has yet to tap into a vast and dynamic music ecosystem beyond the African continent.
The Co-Founder of Crux Global indicated in an interview on Y107.FM’s Myd Morning Radio Show with Rev Erskine that there are highly important areas of music that contemporary artistes in Ghana must be educated on to reach a wide audience. “Crux Global aims at educating people on the music industry and how to actually make sure that people are getting the right level of support and the right mentorship about how the music industry works outside of Ghana, Nigeria and Africa; which I think is not really taught in Ghana.” he explained.
The emergence of a digital space for the global music industry is a move he touted as the pathway of every Ghanaian musician’s works to the world. Funkz noted that these untapped opportunities by many Ghanaian musicians have predominantly stifled the progress of Ghana’s music industry to the world. “There’s not as much education opportunity; there’s not a lot of people that are not aware of certain opportunities or how to navigate within the digital music space. I don’t want to say the Ghana music industry exists it exists and has existed for years,’ he said
Funkz revealed that the Ghana music industry can get access to the wider music community outside Africa through this era of digitalization and the digital music space, as he looks forward to a promising future for artistes from Ghana.
