The National Youth Authority (NYA) has vehemently condemned recent violence that erupted in the Odododiodio constituency between members of the ruling, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Authority, Sylvester Tetteh stated his outfit’s disdain towards the violence describing it as repulsive and intolerable.
“Let me at this point state the Authority’s utter disdain for the recent clashes at Odododiodio by supporters of the NPP and NDC. Such repulsive and intolerable conduct must not be condoned”, he said.
The Authority unequivocally condemning the act further called on the Ghana Police Service to bring perpetrators to book.
“We the young people of our country are demanding for the immediate arrests of these offenders. We need peace and not this. We need the police to find the people responsible for the Odododiodio mayhem and destroyed the good name of the country”.
Sylvester Tetteh made this remark at the Africa Youth Day celebration organized by the NYA on the local theme; “A peaceful Ghana: Rhetoric, Realities and the Youth Factor” drawn from the continental theme “Youth Voices, Actions, Engagement: Building a Better Africa” and tailored to suit and reflect the times as an election year.
The NYA boss noted that he disbelieves the notion that the youth play a dominant role in election violence.
“The youth are seen as playing dominant roles in violence in our country but I disbelieve that and think the youth can cause development in the country free from violence”, he said.
On his authority, the NYA is focused on peace building and pledge to work with the youth to continually build the peace of the country.
