Co-founder of the popular Afrochella Festival in Ghana, Ken Agyapong Jnr. has revealed that the festival might come back with few changes amid COVID-19.
In a virtual discussion themed ‘100 days of COVID-19 in Ghana: Learnings in the entertainment industry’ he disclosed that while Afrochella may take place amid COVID-19, the number of people will be limited and the focus might only be on tourism in Ghana.
“We have everything planned and if we get the green light from Government we could do it. We definitely have to reduce the numbers because 16,000 is not going to happen.
If it doesn’t happen physically, we could also go virtual. We are thinking more about going local and focusing more on Ghanaian tourism and the country because maybe it will be harder for people to come in..It is possible that when you are travelling, you are going to need a vaccine similar to the yellow fever one so that might change a lot of different things. We have a lot of plans, I don’t think we can share it yet”, he said.
He added that prior to COVID-19 in Africa, the Afrochella team had anticipated that the virus will spread from China to Africa because of the trade activities between the two countries.
Afrochella is a festival designed to highlight & elevate thrilling and thriving millennial talent from and within Africa.
