The 2016 edition of Oguaa Fetu Afahye is set to take off between August 27th and September 4th, 2016 in Cape Coast.
This year’s FETU AFAHYE will allow the people of Oguaa and its environs to open up the festival to include all the schools in the central region to become an integral part of the celebration as much as possible to ensure social and economic and most importantly educational development benefits from the event.
It is also to revive certain traditional values of the people of Oguaa and to facilitate the inclusion of Some of the TRADITIONAL EVENTS AND CEREMONIES OF OGUAAMAN that would give the festival attendants the chance to know and feel the other side of Oguaa and give the locals too the chance to revive and revere their own.
A List of PLANNED ACTIVITIES includes;
Sunday: Akwaaba Night where the chiefs will welcome celebrants officially to the Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
Tuesday: REGATTA and FANTE FANTE DAY(KENKEY PARTY). The cooking and eating of all sorts of Fante stew with Fante kenkey/etew etc.
Friday: preceding the climax of the Afahye would be dedicated to:
Returning old boys/girls would be encouraged to pay homage to the Chief and the elders. Invitations are to be sent out to the old school associations to participate in the Afahye Schools Homecoming.
In the evening the old boys/girls would meet at the beach to sing and dance to their own school anthems and popular music they will sing themselves with a lot to drink and around a bonfire ritual with a live band in attendance featuring celebrated musicians.
SATURDAY: GRAND DURBAR: A space will be provided at the VICTORIAL PARK, where the Grand Durber will be taking place for the sponsors to showcase/do activation, from the morning till the end of the durbar.
SUNDAY: There will be a football match between Vipers and Dwarfs as well as the MTN FA Cup Finals.
