Ghanaian-American singer and songwriter Amaarae has disclosed that she was intentional about making her record, ‘Sad Girlz Luv Money’ of her debut album, “The Angel You Don’t Know” a global hit.
Amaarae opened up about the success of her record during an interview with Kojo Manuel on Y 107.9 FM’s “Dryve of Your Lyfe” show. “It was a very conscious decision when working on that record,” she said.
“When we first made the record I literally was in my Instagram live and telling everyone that this was a hit and about to make waves. I think I felt that way about it and we pushed it on radio in the UK and across Africa,” she added.
Amaarae also revealed that “Sad Girlz Luv Money” was a focus track during her performances at several major festivals, including the IQL online festival. “I just used that as a focus track as well and then doing the remix with Kali, who’s like Spanish-American artiste and has crazing streaming numbers. So if we could get her fans to buy into this they will carry it even forward and I think they did it exactly what we projected,” she said.
The song featuring Spanish-American artiste Kali Uchis went on to be a global success on radio and music streaming platforms. The song went on to make its debut at #80 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts the week of its release. She also topped the chat at #1 on the global Spotify Viral chart, #1 on TikTok U.S. Top Tracks chart, #1 on the Shazam US chart and #29 on the UK Singles chart.
Amaarae is set to release her second album dubbed, “Fountain Baby” after her just released single “Reckless and Reckless”.
