Afrobeats singer and songwriter, Kelvyn Brown has admitted that his career goals go beyond the recognition of the Telecel Ghana Music Award scheme.
This daring statement was made by the ‘Fly Away’ maker in an interview on Y107.9FM’s Dryve if Your Lyfe with Kojo Manuel x DJ Millzy.
According to Kelvyn Boy, the quality of artistes in Ghana will also increase the credibility of the award scheme.
He therefore emphasized on the need to always get better as an artiste and aim for higher standards. “I’ve realized that we as creatives are way bigger and stronger than that particular award scheme and we are the reason it exists so we have to work on ourselves and pay attention to ourselves more.”
Describing the impact of the awards on the winning artistes career he said, “I’ve seen people win Artiste of the Year there’s a buzz then it just fades away; if it’s left to awards, I’m not even supposed to be called for shows any longer.”
Despite not filing for a TGMA nomination, Kelvyn Boy’s ‘Vero’ was nominated as Best Highlife Song of the Year at the 25th TGMA Awards. The winner of the category was however announced to be Amerado’s ‘Kweku Ananse’.
