We love anecdotes. Especially when they involve Emmanuel Adebayor. Former Crystal Palace defender Brede Hangeland has revealed just how lazy Adebayor is by providing a hilarious story.
The Norwegian was a typically English defender with his no-nonsense style making a name for himself by producing heroic displays in the heart of the defence for Fulham.
But after six-years at Craven Cottage, he made the switch to Crystal Palace where he was eventually joined by Adebayor. And Hangeland recalled a brilliant moment between the enigmatic frontman on football podcast Heia Fotball via Balls.ie.
“Only played with him for 6 months but a quick story. I played for Fulham and he played for Spurs. We were attacking and I was marking Adebayor in midfield.”
Suddenly he says, ‘Ahhh, I’m hungry’. I replied, ‘What?'”
(Adebayor said:) ‘I can’t wait for the game to finish, I’m so hungry. Do you know a good restaurant in London, Hangeland?'”
Following spells in England with Arsenal, Manchester City and Spurs, the Togo international then made the move to Palace, and Hangeland details how lazy he really was;
“Later when he came to Palace I started to realise where this came from. When we had strength workouts he would sit in the gym with just a cup of coffee and a muffin. He was being paid by City, Tottenham and Palace at the same time, and he was sitting in the gym drinking coffee. Incredible natural talent, very lazy.”
Adebayor, ladies and gentlemen.
