Ghanaian musician, producer and director, C-Real has advised fans of musicians to do away with comparisons.
The musician plainly stated that these comparisons stifle the growth of the entertainment industry in Ghana.
He observes that most at times, Ghanaians commend artistes only to conclude with a comparison to another artiste. This, he explains makes the commendation void in the first place.
Speaking on the #YHavoc Twittter space hosted by YFM, the music producer expressed: “We should stop the dead end arguments, comparisons and the self-degradation. You can’t be simultaneously praising Sarkodie and talking shit about Sarkodie and expect Sarkodie not to be cold too.
Ghanaians have this bad habit of always trying to compare things based on how bad they can see something else. It is very hard for us to say, ‘Yo, this is dope but that is not dope as this is.’
Illustrating his point, C-Real analyzed the entertainment industries in Ghana and Nigeria. To him, both countries are resourced in the industry but the difference is that the Nigerian audience is “do or die” but the Ghanaian audience “is just an audience that feeds off comparison.”
“And that conparison is what is stifling us,” C-Real added.
He further recalled that in Nigeria, Wizkid and Davido were pitched against each other. But at the end of the day, both artistes were winning because the main focus was on promoting Nigerian music.
“But we are still picking our greats against each other.
Like, why can’t Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy be the kings of dancehall and reggae? What is wrong?Nothing is wrong with that. But no, we have to make it a fight. That’s the only way we are able to express our love for these artists. And for me, that’s what we need to change.”
