Head, Real Time Payments, Ghana Interbank Payments and Settlement Systems(GhIPSS), Mrs Akosua Blay has disclosed why business owners should choose the GhQR code to other options and other payment channels.
According to her unlike most payment channels the GhQR code has a lot of advantages for the merchants.
She shared that, “If you have a payment channel that limits you to only the customers or the entity that gave you that payment channel, you’ll be disadvantaged and you’ll want a payment channel that allows you to receive payment from just anybody that you allow to enter or walk into your shop”.
She told Chelsy Sey on Y97.9 FM’s Ryse N Shyne Show, “With the GhQR code your customer is able to make payments directly without any physical contact with the cash and it is free to the customer so, the customer will actually be willing to use it to make payments”.
She explained that, with our current situation regarding COVID-19, “You’ll realize there’s a need for us to make contactless payments. As a merchant, there’s no need to be collecting physical cash because you don’t know if the money is contaminated or not”.
Talking about what makes it different from other payment channels she stated that, it is different because, “unlike the others it accepts funding from various sources, it is free while other payment options come with charges, this is absolutely free and fast to use.
She believes so with this QR code at each location, the merchant and the customer will respect all the protocols so everything is safe, convenient and easy for them.
GhQR is a new and easy way to make payments to a merchant by scanning a QR Code displayed by the merchant with your mobile phone. The merchant gets the money instantly, just like paying with cash
GhQR is interoperable because, with a single QR Code image displayed in a shop, a merchant can receive payments from customers with bank accounts, wallet accounts or card accounts from different banks and payment service providers across the country.
GhQR also allows Merchants to receive payments by displaying a QR Code generated by bank, mobile money operator or payment service provider. The GhQR generated for the merchants can either be a Static QR or a Dynamic QR. In addition to the QR codes, merchants have unique Terminal IDs assigned to each of their point of payments or tills to facilitate receipts via USSD from customers who use feature phones.
