Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, known by stage name D-black has revealed his plans to create a new music genre from South Africa.
The sound which he plans to call ‘Ghanapiano’ is one that emerged in South Africa in 2012 but is currently making waves all over Africa.
Explaining reasons for wanting to do this, he shared that during his stay there, he got the chance to work with a lot of the South African artistes “and I would like to infuse their sound with that of Ghana’s.”
“I’ve done so many songs with the top artistes here and I feel that I’ll pick about 5 and release an E.P called the Ghanapiano sound,” he shared.
D-black explained that the E.P will simply be a mixture of the Ghanaian sound with a mixture of the South African Amapiano sound.
The award winning musician noted that, “It is just the fusion of sounds and as artistes, we should be able to create and mix genres to just create music that people will love.”
He believes although the Amapiano wave is doing well, we can also create more sounds with it, fuse it with our Ghanaian sound and make it better. And he seeks to achieve that with the creation of ‘Ghanapiano’.
“Let’s create something new and make this happen for us. We shouldn’t just stick to one genre, we should be creative,” he urged.
The musician who went on a media tour in South Africa ended up creating lots of music with some of the country’s top musicians, in an interview with Nana Kwasi-Wusu (PM) on Y 97.9 FM’s Dryve of Your Lyfe Show shared, “I’m working on getting an album with a South African.”
