Managing director of Multichoice and GoTV Ghana Mr Cecil Sunkwa-Mills has advised parents not to force their children into the career line they [the children] don’t have an interest in.
According to him, if you force them to do what you want, they’ll walk far away from you.
In an interview with Akosua Hanson on the Y Leaderboard Series on Y107.9fm, he said, “I have an open relationship with my children and it has helped us a lot”.
He stated that his sons are able to communicate with him freely on all kinds of issues including their relationships which most children find hard to talk about with their parents; they also talk to him about career-related issues and even though it’s not easy helping them, he’s happy he’s able to have such conversations with them.
“Probably what you want them to do is good but they have their own dreams they should be left to do their own things support them to do it” he added.
He believes in being authoritative but with boundaries being set for both the parents and children so that do’s and don’ts are communicated clearly.
He advised parents to grant the wishes of their children to draw them closer to them and also help them fulfil their dreams.
