Ghanaian renowned broadcaster and popular Master of Ceremonies Kofi Okyere Darko “KOD”, has encouraged all graduates to pursue their dreams and ambitions even after completing university.
He explained this as key to decreasing the rate of unemployment and boosting the development of the creative industry.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, about 1.74 million (13.4 per cent) of the total working population of 13 million in the age bracket of 15 years and above, in the first quarter of this year were unemployed.
Unemployment as an unresolved issue in this country can be eradicated if graduates adhere to this word of advice to rather become entrepreneurs than to wait for employment.
In January 2022, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Ofori Atta mentioned that building a sustainable entrepreneurial state can solve our youth unemployment issue through strengthening the links between education and job market stakeholders, providing access to finance, skills and market for young entrepreneurs, resourcing state institutions to support the ambitions of those who want to pursue enterprise and growing the capacity of the private sector to create jobs and introduced it as the YouStart initiative for youth-led enterprises in Ghana.
The CEO of Ninteen57 clothing line on Y107.9FM’s Weekend Rush with host, Kokonsa Kester on indicated that every individual has the potential of making ends meet without formal employment. “Don’t think of getting employed, think of something you can do for yourself,” he charged and encouraged the youth to be entrepreneurs.
“You don’t need a shop or a specific place to sell” the multi-talented creative added and revealed that social media and proper advocacy or “good packaging” as he termed it, despite economic imbalances can help one earn a living.
