Ghanaian Jazz Drummer, Paa Kow, has emphasized on the importance of Jazz music to him.
“Jazz means a lot to me because it has improvisation which gives way for you to become a better musician and improves your vocabulary,” he said.
Speaking to Brown Berry on Y107.9FM’s ‘RyseNShyne’, he said, “Jazz can also be everything. Be it highlife, Nigerian music or any type of music. And fact is that a lot of things actually find their roots in Jazz. It just depends on how you use your cords, forms and everything so I love everything about Jazz.”
Talking about the inspiration behind him using the local drums set up for his performances instead of the regular drums, he mentioned the inspiration came from the kind of sound he wanted to create.
“ I wanted mine to sound local and authentic, as I couldn’t get it from the normal drum set, I decided to make my own set. This has always been what I wanted even when I was young. I was always thinking about how to get my own set so I created it,” he explained.
