TV and radio legend, Eddy Blay Jr was on the hot seat today on “Legends on Myd-Morning” as he reflected on his life and time as a rapper before getting on the screens and radio.
The member of the then New Funk Lords rap group who began the pidgin rap movement regardless of how uncommon their style was, enjoyed their fifteen minutes of fame at beaches and on campuses when the rap battle culture was in vogue.
Eddy Blay after splitting from his group at age 22 when rap wasn’t paying took to the corporate world until later being discovered by KKD to begin his radio career.
Beyond his achievements and laurels he expressed his disappointments about not being acknowledged by new generation local hip-hop artists who are now doing now what they pioneered years ago. Nonetheless, his job as a radio and TV presenter makes up for the times he put into rap and music that did not pay.
Eddy Blay is now the Programs Manager at Accra based YFM and the radio host for Weekend Mashup show on the same station. He doubles up as a TV host for Late Nite Celebrity Show on eTV.
