The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Sylvester Tetteh has called on the youth of Ghana to be ambassadors of peace as we approach the December 7 polls.
According to him, it is only through peace, which is accompanied by security that the country will develop and “the future of the youth made possible”.
These were his remarks at the Declaration of the Youth Peace Charter at the independence square.
“Everyone here today is declared an ambassador of peace and you must see yourself as such. Peace means in the midst of all the trouble, you still need to be calm and stretch out a helping hand to your brother. For there is no glory in war but glory is found in those who maintain peace”.
The NYA boss who was confident in the Peace Charter indicated, “I believe the declaration of this charter will see to the birth of a new Ghana where there is peace and a future for us”.
Copies of the charter, he promised would be made available to the youth and all others in the country. “It will be treated with all respect and seriousness”.
Advising the youth to eschew violence ahead of the elections, he stated that for the youth to be regarded highly and engaged in the country’s decision-making process, “then, we need to comport ourselves and live for peace”.
The Youth Peace Charter is a document put together by the various youth wings of the country’s political parties and youth groups in Ghana with support from the NYA, the National Peace Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The charter hinges on and is in accordance with principles outlined in the country’s constitution. By this charter, the youth of Ghana promise to respect the fundamental human rights of every Ghanaian and disassociate themselves from any electoral-related violence.
