Eminem’s surprise Oscars performance of “Lose Yourself” wasn’t lost on viewers.
The Rap God turned it up with his motivational masterclass, which completed a segment on music in movies and went viral on social media.
“Lose Yourself” is of course, intrinsically linked with the 2002 film 8 Mile, and its took the Oscar for best original song back in 2003, the first hip-hop single to do so.
Em’s performance was the top trending moment from the 92nd Academy Awards, according to data reported by Facebook, generating more buzz than Joaquin Phoenix’s acceptance speech for taking out best actor for Joker and South Korean dark comedy Parasite winning best picture.
Eminem is quite used to being No. 1 on lists. His latest, surprise release Music to be Murdered By recently earned the Detroit rapper his historic 10th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.
It wasn’t the only musical performance from the Oscars to go global on Facebook. Also getting thumbs busy on smartphones everwhere was Janelle Monae’s opening number, a tribute to the legendary children’s performer Fred Rogers, coming in as Facebook’s No. 5-ranked “Social Moment.”
