Irish/Ghanaian Catholic Missionary and Founder of Lepers Aid Committee, Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell has encouraged Ghanaian youths to persevere in any work they may find themselves in especially if it requires hard work.
He gave this admonition in an interview with YFM’s Akosua Hanson on the Y Leaderboard Series.
“Don’t lose hope. I made it. Look at me now. God has blessed me and given me all I need to be happy in life. Don’t give up and don’t be afraid of hardwork. If I made it you can make it. Work hard, study hard and keep a vision. Whatever you are doing, think of sharing with others and you can be very happy”.
The Parish Priest of Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra sharing some of his hard times in life revealed that he came from a not so well to do home and had to work hard to get himself into the seminary.
“After my basic education my family could not afford to fund me to further my schooling so I started working as a delivery boy.”
He noted that by dint of hardwork, he was soon promoted and served as a shop attendant. And all this happened in his teens.
Named after his father, Rev. Fr. Campbell furthered that when he was ready to go to the seminary, he was given a tall list of items to buy and it was through his work at the supermarket that he was able to fund his schooling.
Father Campbell, who is from Dublin, Ireland, arrived in Ghana on 13 October 1971. He has acquired Ghanaian citizenship and also formed the Lepers Aid Committee to raise funds for cured lepers.
