Ghanaian workers employed at the Ghana Household Utilities Manufacturing Company Limited (GHUMCO) in Takoradi are being forced to apologize to stray dogs belonging to their Chinese national factory manager, whose name was only given as Mr Zhu.
The workers recount how most of them have suffered dog bites at the premises of the company.
According to them, after a dog bite, the worker is forced to write an apology letter to the dog instead, failure of which will lead to dismissal.
The workers further lament zero payment of allowances and compensation in case of injury, poor safety measures at the factory, poor salaries coupled with long working hours without benefits among others.
Joseph Essien has been working with GHUMCO for 30 years and his take home pay is GH¢ 350.
Whilst after 18 years of working with the company, Isaac Kojo Brace’s take home salary is GH¢250.
He tells 3news.com that salaries of workers range from GH¢200 and GH¢350.
He was even sacked from the premises of the company by Mr. Zhu Tuesday for failing to obey his orders.
It took protests by colleagues to have Mr. Zhu revert his decision and restore Mr Brace to duty.
