For placing among the Top 1000+ managers out of the 7.6 million FPL managers worldwide alongside the 2nd Best Manager in Ghana, most of my FPL friends have encouraged I write some FPL articles to guide all those seeking essential advice to thrive in their mini-leagues and worldwide rankings.
Here we go!!!
GMABC FPL CHAMP- Episode 1
With our 100 million budget, all managers are expected to build their 15-man squad ready to battle as the season kicks off come Saturday, 12th September, 2020.
So I have come up with a guide to help us build season-winning squads whilst having as much fun as possible.
- DON’T PLAN BEYOND THE FIRST 5-7 Weeks
Most managers are tempted to fill their squad with players that would be among the Top players by the end of the season.
But FPL experience has shown that, it’s always important to build your squad to take off smoothly and study how the season pans out in the first few weeks before you start choosing the tipped Top players for your team via our free transfers or 1st wildcard.
So looking at the first 5-7 fixtures, teams like Chelsea, Spurs, Southampton and Fulham have very good fixtures meaning we should have at least one of their attacking players.
- ALWAYS HAVE AT LEAST 2 TOP CAPTAIN Players in Your Squad.
The doubling of captains points is so crucial to FPL success such that the past 5 winners of FPL worldwide have shown to have good captaincy choices.
At least you should have two of the big hitters in your team as your reliable captain choices for each week. Big hitters such as Salah, Mane, De Bruyne, Sterling, Bruno Fernandes, Aubameyang Aguero who are proven to produce big points which would be doubled each Game Week (GW).
Don’t forget to choose your vice captain each week cos in case your captain misses his match, your vice’s points would rather be doubled.
- DON’T PUT ALL YOUR EGGS in one basket.
We are all attempted to buy the Martials, Alexander-Arnolds, Salahs, De Bruynes etc into our team. But when we do that, the money left would be small to fill the remaining players of our 15-man squad.
Thus it’s important that sometimes we make sacrifices such as buying a 7.5 million Greenwood instead of a 9.5 million Rashford to allow us that extra 2 million to invest on other players of squad.
Caution: It doesn’t also mean we should be downgrading all our players price-wise.
As it has been seen a balanced team from defence to attack is better than a team full of 5 big hitters but the rest of the players not producing constant FPL points.
- Scout For Very Effective Cheap Players
We all need cheap but playing players to augment our 15-man squad. It’s so important especially when we need players from our bench to play should any of our first XI miss a game.
I can’t list all of them but the FPL SCOUT does highlight them in his daily Scout updates especially under the Differentials option.
Names worth mentioning as we start the 2020/21 season are 4.0 Mitchell of Crystal Palace, 4.0 Johnson of West Ham, 4.0 Ferguson of Palace (injured currently), 4.0 Nyland of Aston Villa and some of the 4.0 Leeds defenders.
- PLAN YOUR FIRST POSSIBLE TWO TRANSFERS before the Season Starts.
In this corona-affected FPL season with the season starting in September instead of the usual August and 4 teams missing GW 1, it’s important we plan our first 2 transfers down to know how we would swoop for our vital Manchester City and United players alongside the Burnley and Aston Villa lads when they join us in GW2.
In the Fantasy Football Community worldwide, there are 3 lines of thought to help us navigate this hurdle.
a) Build a strong team purposefully for GW1 then use your wildcard chip to rebuild a new squad from GW 2 onwards.
b) Build a team while still choosing your preferred United and/or City players. Then bench them in GW1 so you don’t need to transfer them in when GW2 is in for them to play.
c) Build a GW1 team without the City and United players but plan which transfers to make to draft them back into our teams by GW 2 & 3.
Since most FPL experts would advise against using your wildcard chip in GW2 (option a) and most managers would want to hit big in GW1, then it means option c must be carefully planned before the season starts otherwise we might be locked when trying to make those transfers in GW 2 or 3.
Watch out for Episodes 2 and 3 where I would talk about KEY STRATEGIES for this season as well as unveiling my 15-man squad since most managers are anxious to see it.
