The tweet heard around the world.
Hillary Clinton had a memorable and immediate comeback to a Donald Trump Twitter insult on Thursday afternoon.
After President Obama officially endorsed the all-but-certain Democratic nominee, the presumptive GOP nominee tweeted: “Obama just endorsed Crooked Hillary. He wants four more years of Obama — but nobody else does!”
Clinton responded five minutes later with her own tweet: “Delete your account.”
Hillary’s counterpunch had been retweeted over 190,000 times Thursday afternoon. Trump followed up roughly three hours later with his own comeback about Clinton’s private email server during her time as secretary of state.
“How long did it take your staff of 823 people to think that up–and where are your 33,000 emails that you deleted?” Trump tweeted. The jibe drew over 13,000 retweets in 20 minutes.
The former First Lady could have also lectured Trump about getting his facts right. President Obama has a 52% approval rating, according to Gallup, so most of the country seems to be happy with him.
Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus fired back at Clinton later Thursday, tweeting: “If anyone knows how to use a delete key, it’s you.”
President Obama had endorsed the former First Lady in a video released Thursday afternoon.
“I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office,” Obama said. “She’s got the courage, the compassion and the heart to get the job done. I’m with her.”
Former President Bill Clinton had a more polite reaction to the endorsement: “Thank you, @BarackObama!” he tweeted.
