Although Hiplife artiste Patapaa missed out on the Most Popular Song of the Year award at the recently held VGMA, he still gets to wear the title anyway.
No, not by Charterhouse, it was conferred on him by Huawei last Saturday at the Music Magic Comedy (MMC) event held at the National Theatre.
The global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider presented him with a Huawei Y 175 because they believe his hit song, One Corner which even transcended the shores of Ghana deserved the Most Popular Song of the Year award.
Talking to Showbiz after the honour was done him by officials of Huawei, Patapaa who was besides himself with joy said “although I don’t have an award from VGMA, at least I have the latest Huawei Y 175 phone to show that I worked hard last year. One Corner was the most popular song in the year under review and I am glad Huawei has seen the need to honour me” he said.
According to Patapaa, the recognition from Huawei will motivate him to work hard and hopefully grab awards next year. “I am working hard to prove Ghanaians wrong. I am not a one-time hitmaker. Just as my One Corner song was a hit, I know my other songs will also go down well with Ghanaians. One Corner song was just a warmer and I can promise Ghanaians I have great stuff for them” he added.
Asked how he felt about the negative comments which were rife after he failed to grab any award at the VGMA as well as those about his outfit to the event, Patapaa said he is a strong man and was unfazed by such comments or insults.
“I heard all the insults on radio and the funny comments on social media but Patapaa is the guy who is never moved by criticism” he added.
He used the opportunity to thank all those who campaigned for him to win at the VGMAs. “I want to thank every Ghanaian especially those who were loud on radio stations advocating that I deserved the Most Popular Song of the Year award” he said.
