Ghanaian-American actor and comedian, Michael Blackson has indicated that social media accounts for his wealth and influence presently.
Blackson stated that today’s society carries the ‘fake-it-till-you make it mentality’ which is evidently rampant on social media, adding, “Now I understand why these guys fake it till they make it; We are in an era where nobody respects you or cares about you when you don’t have anything.”
Speaking on America based segment ‘Club Shay Shay’ with host, Shannon Sharpe, he hinted that the image perceived by social media users come across a post is what determines the amount of attention and importance one is given. “People only respect about what they think you are worth. If I’m trying to get some money; I drive up there with a Rolls Royce, whatever this guy is planning on paying me, it just went up 20,000 dollars higher.” he enlightened.
Blackson therefore stated that his image, what people saw on social media gave him the needed attention and influence to be where he is today. “Everything is about image, people respect you by what they see; it’s a shame but that’s the world we live in.”
