Chief Executive Officer of Sunseekers Tours and Sunlodge Hotel, Mr. Kwame Ansong, has confessed that he has no problem using his hands for anything even if it seems degrading or nauseating because, around the age of three, he was inspired by two garbagemen and wanted to be like them.
In an interview with host, Rev. Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series, a youth empowerment segment on the Myd-Morning Radio Show which airs on Y107.9FM, the CEO shared this very interesting story.
“My fondest memory growing up is, in my area, there used to be a garbage truck that came around about twice a week and I marvelled at it whenever I saw the garbage truck coming in. I was about three or four years old and I don’t know but maybe it was the yellow-bright colour of the truck.
This garbage truck comes in and these macho-looking guys stand at the back. They just jump off the back of the truck, pick up the garbage, throw it in and then they jump back on”, he narrated.
According to him, these men were his first heroes and he admired how they did their work so much that he told himself he wanted to be a garbageman when he grew up. Even though dreams changed when he grew up, Mr. Ansong mentioned that he is still not disgusted doing any form of work with his hands.
He continued that it was after nursery school that peer pressure gradually got to him and he realized that it was not so cool aspiring to be a garbageman and that is when he began to pay more attention to his fascination with aeroplanes.
“I then said I wanted to become a pilot. I went to the airport when I was very young and I used to go and stand on the observation balcony at Kotoka International Airport and the planes just fascinated me. Till today, if planes go overhead, I just smile. Sixty percent of the time, I’d look up unconsciously and find out which airline is going”, Mr. Kwame Ansong further shared.
He commented that with his love for planes, it sure comes as no shock that he’s ended up in the travel and tour industry and is the CEO of one of the biggest Tour Operator and Destination Management companies, Sunseekers Tours Limited.
