Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Glitz Africa Magazine, Claudia Lumor brought style and prestige to Ghana’s lifestyle industry with the magazine.
A lover of lifestyle magazines, Claudia who had come back to Ghana after schooling and working for a while in the United Kingdom (UK) realized Ghana had no lifestyle magazine which met the quality she looked for or compared to that of neighbouring country, Nigeria.
“I am someone who has always loved magazines and when I came to Ghana I wasn’t getting the magazines I wanted so I started researching and realized we didn’t have a lifestyle magazine here. The magazines I was finding were not doing Ghana and those featured in there the justice they deserved, and I also felt stories could’ve been told in a more tasteful way,” she told host of the Myd Morning Radio Show, Rev Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series.
Seeing Nigerian magazines tell great stories in contrast to Ghanaian stories, Claudia knowing class could be found in Ghana took pains to self-teach herself about the magazine business and in two years, launched and produced the first edition of the Glitz magazine.
The fashionista is humbled by the success of the magazine saying, “When we started we didn’t have a thriving fashion or beauty industry and I was even struggling to get people to feature in the magazine.”
But now, professionals from all sectors of the Ghanaian economy are linked to fashion in one way or the other. Young people who were shy to be linked to the fashion industry are now proud to call themselves designers regardless of their educational qualifications.
Glitz Africa is an exciting high-end celebrity, lifestyle and fashion brand which highlights the life of the contemporary African. Glitz publishes high quality magazines every quarter as well as organising shows and has been instrumental in the growth of the Ghanaian creative space.
