Multiple award-winning highlife musician, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has advised that music is a good business, hence, those who want to go into it should do it properly.
Talking to Kokonsa Kester on Y107.9FM’s Weekend Rush, he explained that, it is very important for artistes to register with royalty paying companies if they really want to make music their business because it pays well.
According to him, living in the US enlightened him on these things and thanks to that, he has registered with the US royalty paying company and at specific periods, he receives his payment for whenever his songs are used commercially.
Gyedu-Blay observed that some young artistes may not know about these companies and it would’ve been best if the older musicians and these companies’ held workshops, seminars and the likes, to share such ideas to the young ones.
“The business aspect of music is what is going to make sure that your family is fed, so, if you’ll do any kind of music, you have to be sure that you are part of a commission company, so that you get paid when your intellectual property is used for commercial purposes”, he said.
