Managing Director of Think Mahogany Events Consultancy, Debra-Jane Nelson has indicated she was really impressed by the humility of the Rawlings’ the first time she got the opportunity to work with them.
Her encounter with the Rawlings’ came when she was contracted to organize the 70th birthday party of the late President.
Sharing her experience with the Rawlings’ on Y107.9FM’s Leaderboard series hosted by Rev Erskine, she said, “I organized the late President Rawlings’ 70th birthday and what I remember the most about him was his humility and that of his family members. They are people of very few words. I was dealing with Yaa Asantewaa and she was such a lady. I was thinking coming from such a powerful family, they’ll have some airs around them”.
She noted that unlike most of her clients, the Rawlings’ allowed her to operate without any interference and never once overstepped their boundaries.
“A lot of people do not allow you to operate in your own way but the Rawlings family was different. They allowed me to do my work and asked for my opinion and used please and thank you all the time. They didn’t over step their boundary regardless of the family paying for my services”, she added.
On her authority, just like the Rawlings family trusted her brand, she does not want her clients to trust in her as a person but rather, “they should trust the brand. I am working this hard because I am looking at the brand still being in existence and top of mind 10 years from now”.
To her, the Ghanaian society will be much more different and better if more of the country’s leaders could make people relate with them at a personal level just like the late President Rawlings.
