In a recent tweet award-winning Ghanaian producer Juls revealed his ambitious project, “Palmwine Diaries Vol 1,” as a testament to the rich and unexplored musical heritage of Ghana.
In his tweet, Juls expressed his deep sense of honour as he introduced what he believes should be the defining sound of Ghana. For years, he noted, Ghanaian music has often been sidelined in conversations about African popular music.
He passionately emphasized that Ghana has been a driving force behind numerous cultural movements but hasn’t been united enough to appreciate its talent.
Juls candidly admitted that he had been hesitant to release some of the incredible music he’d been holding onto, fearing it wouldn’t be taken seriously. However, he recognized the need to change the narrative.

He explained that Ghana has a unique sound rooted in Highlife, which he described as soulful, special, and spiritual. He stressed that it cannot be replicated or substituted.
The producer encouraged Ghanaians to appreciate their musical heritage and remember that their forefathers effortlessly created great music without a formal plan. Juls called for a shift in focus, away from chasing trends, and toward honouring their musical roots.
The groundbreaking soundtrack, “Palmwine Diaries Vol 1,” is the first instalment in a five-year project. Juls intends to release a new sequel every year, all aimed at celebrating Ghanaian music.
