It is recalled that on the 12th day of April, 2022, a very promising and industrious Konkomba young man, Mr Jacob Kuweila, was killed under very painful and mysterious circumstances. He was a teacher at Dagbon State Senior HIgh School. (SHS), Yendi. Shortly after this unfortunate and tragic event, another unfortunate event occurred at the village of Zachoyili resulting in the death of people believed to be of Fulani extraction.
After these sorrowful events I have listened to some worrying comments on social media which I think has a lot of security implications and also counter productive to concerted effort to bring lasting peace to the northern part of the country. I listened to a young man on social media who tried to create a nexus or linkage between the death of Mr Jacob Kuweila and the incidence at Zachoyili. What was more worrying was the attempt by the young man to set two tribes on a war path by calling on one tribe to be in readiness for a possible counter attack by the other tribe.
Again, he tried to introduce religion into this incident which in my candid and honest opinion is unnecessary and needles. I may not want to belabor the point but have the following piece of advice to my good people of the north:
1. Please let us not be quick to draw conclusions on incidents which require forensic investigations by the security agencies otherwise it may prejudice the out come of their investigations.
2. War is certainly not the best option. I have experienced wars in the region and seen the untold hardship it brought to our people. Wars don’t determine who is brave and who is coward. All it brings is unnecessary destructions.
3. Let us coexist in peace and harmony and that is the only way we can grow.
4. Let us condemn any criminal conduct and give out those who engage in them .
I therefore call on the security agencies and particularly the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to expedite action on this matter to bring a lasting peace to the area.
I also urge the traditional and social media to be circumspect in their reportage. They should verify and counter check the accuracy of every information before bringing it out into the public domain.
LOVE PEACE, PREACH PEACE.
