Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Vodafone Ghana, Patricia Obo-Nai, has tipped that to move forward in a field, women should work hard on their roles and make sure that somebody knows about their work hard.
Speaking with host, Rev. Erskine on YFM’s Y Leaderboard Series, a segment on the Myd Morning Radio Show, she noted that a lot of women are working very hard, however, they remain stagnant in their positions because no one sees how hard they are working.
“A lot of women are working hard. They are sitting in the meetings and taking the minutes. Don’t be the one taking the minutes, be the one making the PowerPoint presentation”, she charged.
The CEO furthered, “Be the one at the table where people will see you and know that you know your stuff and you work hard otherwise, you’ll always be asking why these guys are being promoted. It’s because although you work hard, nobody knows”.
Mrs. Obo-Nai stated that whether we like it or not, we are living in an era where people still have their biases because of the way they’ve been socialized, hence one can try to drive change but obviously, cannot change everyone.
Per this, she added that women should make sure that they work hard, not exactly by being loud, but by being at the right place at the right time.
“When it’s time to do the presentation, even if it’s two people speaking, be one of them. If it’s three, chip in. Don’t be at the back and hope that by the time those people are done, people will remember that you were part of it because your name was on the slide”, she instanced.
Patricia Obo-Nai concluded by saying; “Nobody tells your story for you when the decisions are being made so make sure somebody knows you work hard, and work hard”.
