The entire world marked 10, September 2020 as the World Suicide Prevention Day, which is an awareness day observed annually in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides with various activities globally.
Award winning Ghanaian rapper and songwriter M.anifest christened Kwame Ametepee Tsikata was one of the many global icons to show great commitment in reassuring people, especially, ones going through depression and mental health issues that it’s okay to ask for help, and that there is help out there.
M.anifest threw his support behind MINDITGH a private non profitable organization with a mandate of providing a call center and offer support to people suffering depression.
In a short interview on Y 102.5 FM in Kumasi on Friday morning, the rapper told Kay Official, host of the ‘Myd Morning Radio Show’ (MMRS) that he thought it was important to tag along and support the efforts of one of the most innovative organizations in the country.
“There’s an organization called MINDITGH, an NGO that’s doing something very innovative with technology to offer some support to people suffering from depression. This is quite important, mental health isn’t child’s play and we’ve been dismissive of it in Ghana for a long time. But a lot of people; bigger part of the population go through some mental issues.”
M.anifest went on to advice that we all desist from name calling and stigmatizing such individuals but rather encourage them to recover.
“We have to realize that just like you can catch malaria or cold, maybe not exactly the same way but mental health and things like depression have potentials to affect lots of us and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. We have to really support people.”
