The greater Accra regional chairman of Musiga, Ras Antwi Caleb has disclosed that the musicians union is and has been weak but portrayed as strong to the public.
Speaking in an interview he mentioned that veteran artistes and young airtistes were weak because the structures of the union were weak and not functioning as it should.
“We are weak, the union is weak, the structures are weak, so our members are weak, not only the old musicians but all because we have no one defending their welfare”. He said.
He further disclosed how badly he was handed over the office of being Regional chairman and how he was struggling to put in right measures to help the union work.
“I took office without no handing over note, how do you expect me to function, I wrote to the former president after several verbal talking, there was only a room, a desk, a chair, receipt books, what is working there?”. He added
Ras Caleb finally mentioned that he had supported the growth of the union and veterans in his own way since his inception into office.
The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is an umbrella organization that brings together all musicians in Ghana, regardless of genre and seeks to support musicians in the country.
