Music genres are important because they are one of the few and most valuable tools we have at our disposal for understanding and discussing artistes’ creations.
Multi-faceted artiste, Gibriville formerly known as Gibril The African, has disclosed that zouk inspired him to pursue music.
Noting in an interview with Bushke on the Shouts On Y Show which airs on Y97.9FM, he said, “my dad took me to a concert when I was 9 and it was Kassav a zouk band. I was like that’s me and since then I have never looked back.”
Gibrilville also expressed his love for Africa and being able to explore a variety of African Cultures to guide his music career
“I have been blessed I grew up in a lot of African countries which has aided me bring something unique to the table as far as what ever genre is concerned”.
Although his father is from Sierra Leon and mother a Ghanaian, Gibrilville grew up in Nigeria, Togo, Benin and Ghana.
Currently, he is promoting his new singles, Kilode, love & Hiphop and Foreign Exchange. With ‘Kilode’ topping Y97.9 Taadi most requested Top 10 Chats.
Zouk is a popular dance music associated mainly with the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, as well as Saint Lucia, Dominica, and Haiti, all in the French Antilles (French West Indies). The music blends a variety of Caribbean, African, and North American music styles.
