UK-based Ghanaian artiste, Clement Marfo, believes his unique music style was inspired by the two distinct Ghanaian cultural blends.
According to Clement, his parents are both of different Ghanaian backgrounds with his mom a Ga native while his dad an Akyem who hails from Aburi in the Eastern part of the country.
The Ga tribe are largely found in the southern part of Ghana landmarked with the ocean while the Akyems are inhabitants of the high hills in the Eastern Region of Ghana surrounded by mountains and steep forests.
In an exclusive interview on Y107.9 FM with Kokonsa Kester, the rapper said that his vibrancy and unique craft are more influenced by his mom while his off-scene and calm personality were inherited from his dad.
“My Dad hails from Aburi and my mom from Adabraka, these two backgrounds have a great influence on every part of my lifestyle, especially my music. My Mom a Ga and also from Adabakra and I feel the south is livelier and a lot of activities like the nightlife and all that. I feel like I got that from my mom and a lot of energy from her side. But from my dad’s, I think it’s more about calm and a lot more reserved from the mountains,” he shared.
Clement Marfo also disclosed that he was born into a family of learned people and teachers, hence had literature and collective works instilled in him during his childhood development.
“I also come from a family of teachers, so form a young age, English and literature were like real part of my life and my household. All those things made me to who I am. I love to perform with so much energy and with the lyrics, I always pay attention to what I want to say. I really want to send a message out in every piece of my music,” he added.
Clement turned a new chapter as a solo artiste after breaking through with the six-piece band The Frontline. Clement was described as “a Jay-Z meets James Brown with a South London accent” by the UK’s top music publication, Music Week.
Presently, Clement Marfo is visiting his family in Ghana for a little vacation.
