Hubert Baidoo, Lead Economic Analyst for The New Force, has expressed deep disappointment and concern over the government’s failure to improve Ghana’s transportation system, despite its critical role in driving economic growth.
In an exclusive interview with Fati Shaibu-Ali on Happy 98.9FM’s Morning Show, Mr. Baidoo shed light on the New Force’s 12 pillars for economic growth and lamented the neglect of Ghana’s vast railway lines and water bodies. He emphasized that the country’s reliance on roads for transporting goods and heavy machinery is not only economically inefficient but also unsustainable, as it causes significant damage to roads and hinders the free movement of people and goods.
“The idleness of Ghana’s water bodies has created an opportunity for galamsey to thrive,” Mr. Baidoo said. “It’s time to adopt a sub-regional railway network and water transportation system to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our transportation sector.”
Mr. Baidoo stressed that the government’s failure to invest in alternative transportation modes has resulted in significant damage to roads and hindered the free movement of people and goods. He highlighted the New Force’s commitment to prioritizing Ghana’s transportation system and unlocking its economic potential.
“The New Force is committed to developing a comprehensive transportation plan that incorporates all modes of transportation, including railways, waterways, and roads,” Mr. Baidoo said. “We will work tirelessly to ensure that Ghana’s transportation system is efficient, effective, and sustainable.”
