It’s the 9th debut anniversary of South Korean boy band EXO! The SM Entertainment group made its debut on April 8, 2012, with the release of its debut single, MAMA.
As customary among fans of Korean Pop artists, projects are held to celebrate the occasion. In the same vein, the Nigerian fan base of the 9-member group launched a Billboard Ads project to commemorate the anniversary.
All set in Lagos, fans mounted 4 Billboard Ads in 3 different locations; Ikeja, Victoria Island, and Yaba. The fan base also initiated a 3-day LED Billboard display from April 6 to April 8, 2021. The first 2 days saw the LED Billboards displayed for 4 hours per day with a 24-hour display on the third day.
Aside from the Billboard Ads projects, the fan base donated food items to the SOS Children Villages, a non-governmental organization in Nigeria focused on supporting children without parental care and families at risk.
While this is the first major project Nigerian EXOLs (fandom name) have done, they have previously held events amongst themselves and donated sanitary pads to high school students.
In a chat with Pop Central on YFM, the administrators of the EXO fan base in Nigeria hinted on other projects during the year and asked fans to anticipate.
