The 1997year group of the Old Achimotan Association (OAA’97) is celebrating 25 years of leaving Achimota School. For their Legacy Project, the year group has implemented a series of projects aimed at “Making Achimota School an ICT Centre of Excellence”. The projects include the Installation of internet and connectivity infrastructure in the school, Acquisition of Google workspace for education platform to enable online interaction between students and teachers, and the Training and Development of the capacity of teachers to use these platforms to enhance teaching and learning in the school.
Under the infrastructure project, the group has layed Fibre Optic cables on both the Eastern and Western compounds, connecting all administrative, academic, residential, and recreational facilities. Additionally, the group has arranged and secured the provision of 50 mbps internet to the school for a period of 2 years. The administrative block, the staff common rooms, all ICT labs, all science labs including the entire Tullow Science Block are among some of the key facilities that have been connected.
After a thorough due diligence review of Achimota School by Google Inc., the technology giant has given approval to the school to access the Google Workspace for Education suite. This provides the school continuous free access to the use of the Google Classroom platform as well as the opportunity to issue http://achimota.edu.gh email addresses to the 200 plus teachers, 4000 plus students, as well as all non-academic staff of the school.
The last piece of the jigsaw is a project aimed at developing the capacity of teachers in the school and equipping them in the use of all the new technologies that have been introduced to the school by the 1997 group of old students. The Information technology staff of the school have also been trained to provide first level support when required.
These projects are very important and are expected to enhance teaching and learning at Achimota School. It is believed that these initiatives will result in students who have been adequately guided and effectively prepared for further academic pursuit in any university anywhere in the world. These projects also represent the changing face of education in Ghana and Achimota School. The entire OAA community is excited and proud of these achievements.
The project will be officially handed over to the school on 24th March 2022 at 10am at the Old Assembly Hall on the school compound. Also, at 5:30pm the same day, OAA’97 will have dinner with the current students at the various dining halls in the school. There will be a Torchlight Procession & Bonfire on 25th March 2022 from 6pm at the school’s Club House.
OAA’97 is greatly appreciative of all who have supported so far and takes the opportunity to invite the entire OAA community to support and massively participate in the celebrations.
