Managing Director of Think Mahogany Events Consultancy, Debra-Jane Nelson has advised Ghanaians against making assumptions about others based on their looks as they could be assuming wrongly.
Sharing her experience, she noted that growing up, a lot of people always judged her based on her looks which she did not seem to understand.
Speaking to Rev Erskine on Y 107.9 FM’s Y Leaderboard Series she shared, “People always assumed I was something else based on my skin tone and my love for tattoos and piercings. They will just make so much assumptions based on how you look without giving you an opportunity to speak”.
According to her, most people do not even believe her when she mentions that she studied Christian Theology at some point in her life, all because of the assumptions they have about her.
“They just look at me in shock and unbelief, like I’m not capable of studying such”, she said.
She believes that looks do not always define and reveal the identity of a person.
She mentioned that one thing people do not know about her is that, “Lots of my decisions are Prayer guided but because they assume and do not even give me an opportunity to speak, they wouldn’t know”.
She advised people who conclude about others based on assumptions to put a stop to it because in most instances their assumptions are wrong, and it prevents them from having an opportunity to really know someone.
