Author and Digital Creator, Beatrice Shine Ayrae has called upon policy makers in Ghana to join in efforts being made to create more awareness regarding women empowerment in the Ghanaian society.
Speaking to Rev Erskine, host of Y107.9FM’s YLeaderBoard series radio show she noted that getting every girl child to know about sexual molestation and abuse at the early stages of their lives, is one of the ways they can be empowered to stand for their rights against such acts.
The General Manager of Ayrae Series noted that many women in Ghana grow up as victims of abuse all their lives, adding that the perpetrators are individuals who tend to be well known by the victims. “Those who abuse kids are not people who are far away from us; they are not strangers, they are so close to us; people who you would not think will do such things end up being the same people who abuse the children.”
She added the rate of abuse and child molestation will decrease if policy makers in society get involved. “Policy makers should be involved; then we involve the chiefs of the various communities to create opportunities for young girls to learn about all these things and also be taught what to do when they find themselves in such cases.” she concluded.
