Managing Director for PrimeTime Company Limited, organizers of the National Science and Maths Quiz, Nana Akua Ankomah-Asare has shared her love for timeless music on the YLeaderboard Series.
The mother who sings and dances for fun with her kids disclosed that she is a big fan of Ghanaian High-life legend, Kojo Antwi.
According to her, she formed some great memories with Kojo’s songs during her time studying in the United States.
“I like some of the new artistes but I am a Kojo Antwi fan. ‘Odo Maayea’, ‘Odo Ano Wappi’ are some of my favourite songs and they hold some memories for me. When I travelled abroad for studies and eighteen of us were so homesick, I went out to buy a sound system with some money I had. Everyone heard about it the same day and we came together for a little get-together. I had a friend who was a strong Kojo Antwi fan who came along with his CD. He played the ‘Tom and Jerry Aware’ song and it was an emotional song”, she said.
In an interview on Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Radio show hosted by Rev Erskine, she disclosed her all-time favourite from the artiste is the song, ‘Me Ne Wora’, “and that is the song we used for our couple dance at our wedding”.
Stating what makes the musician her favourite, she indicated, “he is very poetic and I like the way he plays and romanticizes words. He is also able to keep his lyrics clean and crunchy”.
Her love for Ghanaian music also sees her enjoying songs from the legendary vocalist and writer, Pat Thomas. “I love Pat Thomas as well. My grandma loved his song ‘Okomfo Bone’ and whenever I played it, she will tap along”.
Akua however loves songs from the new crop of Ghanaian artistes, especially from KiDi. Some of her favourites from the musician include, ‘Adiepena’ and ‘Say Cheese’.
Her taste in music is not only limited to Ghanaian music but includes Jazz, Rock, RnB, Hip-Hop and specific love for some Reggae tunes.
