Historian and Pan Africanist, Mr. Aboagye has mentioned that the late President Jerry John Rawlings is a legend.
Best known to him, the former Ghanaian military leader’s actions have affected the country in both the negative and positive but, the positive he will say outweighs the negative.
“No man is a saint and even devils sometimes do good”, he stated.
He also added that the role the late President played in his era will still be analyzed and discussed in years to come because “it has greatly impacted the country”.
In an interview with YFM’s Haruna Babaginda on the Reggae Republic Show, Mr Aboagye stated that he believes many Ghanaians and Africans who are yet to be born, will definitely hear about the late President and what he did for the country. He’s a man of many sides”, he added.
In discussing some of his shortcomings that he was blamed for, specifically, the three judges who were killed in the ’80s, he mentioned, “no record states that he’s responsible for the killing of the judges”.
He described the late President as a hands-on person and an interesting character.
The late military leader ruled the country for close to 20 years from 1981-2001 and passed on at the Korle bu teaching hospital on the 12th of November 2020.
