Reports from Tamale in the Northern Region indicate Samini’s Sallafest concert was cancelled.
An inside source told Nash Iddi – a media partner of the show that the event was cancelled because of alleged gunshots in some parts of Tamale, Dagban Dabbi fong to be precise.
[We have cancelled the show because of some reported gunshots fired in the city during the early hours of the evening and considering the fact that we are in election year, we wouldn’t want to go ahead with the show because we picked up intelligence that , the rampant gunshots which was heard during the early hours of the evening was most likely to be transferred to the event grounds. Samini for some years now has been a strong advocate of Violent free election and wouldn’t want his name/brand to be cited in any related violence.” The source stated categorically.
He also added that, The Salla date which was calculated to fall on Sunday, 11th September , eventually turned up to be on Monday, 12th September, 2016, and Tamale being a Moslem dominated city, hosting a show on Salla eve is most likely to receive low patronage because people will be going for early morning prayers and sacrifices, an activity most Moslems won’t miss for anything.
Organizers are yet to make an official statement on the cancellation , but our inside source tells us a day will be fix in 2016 for a comeback show.]
But residents of the city including media folks claim the show did not happen for other reasons:
