Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Rex Owusu Marfo popularly known as Rex Omar has been bashed by social media users for publicly displaying the list of songs scheduled to be sang by Afua Asantewaa at her upcoming singa-thon attempt.
The Chairman of the Interim Directors of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation(GHAMRO), in a recent interview which surfaced on social media, highlighted that GHAMRO is mandated to abort the singa-thon attempt of Afua Asantewaa, if she fails to submit all 3,200 songs she was scheduled to sing for monitoring by GHAMRO. He explained that the move was to avoid any trouble regarding royalties for the song owners after the attempt. “My statement was not to target and destroy her project as I was one of the first people who posted her and promoted her on my page; what I’m advising her to do is to help her avoid any future trouble after she has won or has become successful by setting the new record.”
Rex Omar earlier today, after posting the songs enlisted for the singa-thon attempt was questioned by Afua Asantewaa for what she termed as an unacceptable act on account of the list exclusively made for GHAMRO. “This is supposed to be a confidential document for your outfit so why make it public Sir. This is not acceptable.” she said.
Other social media users have joined in the fit of rage against Rex Omar and GHAMRO. Below are a few comments.
