Nigeria has a new star on the rise! Afro-pop singer Victony who brings us ambient sounds and eclectic rhythms for our hearts and souls.
He recently released his debut EP titled ‘Saturn’, which consists of six tracks and features ‘Bop Daddy’ hitmaker, Falz.
On a Y Lounge interview with Akosua Hanson, we get some insight into the creative process and how it all came together.
‘More’ is the first song off the project, which was inspired by Singer and songwriter Natalie Taylor’s Amen. With the melody stuck in his head, the goal was to take her folk sound and fuse it with Afro-pop melodies.
Maria, which features Falz, is the second track off the project. It has Spanish lyrics on it by Victony himself, showing his fans that he is a versatile artist.
‘Space & Time’ is the third song which you will find on the project. Even though it’s an Afro-pop tune, it is laced with hip hop vibes and gives you that bump.
Stating that he wanted to do something different, Space & Time is nothing short of that.
With songs like ’87 Club’ and ‘Faster’, it’s all positive vibes, specifically crafted as anthems for happy times. “This one is for the fans, my outlaws,” The artist said.
‘Jo Riddim’ is the sixth and final song on the project.
When asked what inspired it, he said: “I challenged myself to make a song that everyone could dance to, wherever you hear it, you just wanna dance.”
With musical inspirations ranging from artists like Drake, Jon Bellion, and Natalie Taylor, Victony’s versatility knows no bounds.
