Legendary Ghanaian highlife artiste, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, has said that the advancement of technology has made musicians lazy.
In an interview with Kokonsa Kester on the Weekend Rush on Y107.9FM, Ambolley said “Technology has made musicians become lazy because everything is right in front of them. The white man has made the computer and put sounds and instrumentals on it already and the musicians use them but the sounds that the white man puts on the computers are not our own music”, he said.
He explained that, most musicians these days are not pushed to make their own music from scratch because of technology. He added that the new way of doing music will kill the indigenous Ghanaian sound because the default sounds on these machines are not the Ghanaian musical style.
Gyedu-Blay mentioned that if musicians want to be creative and come out with something unique, they must have to put their own creative thoughts into the computer.
“If you don’t have the basic knowledge of music, then you’re just going to be imitating and you will not be a creator”, he added.
Gyedu-Blay admitted that just like the coin has two sides, technology also has its good and bad sides, adding that technology has helped to make the selling of music easier and more lucrative because they do not have to export their songs onto CDs and take them to stores to have them sold before they can make money.
He advised Ghanaian musicians to take advantage and this and the many other benefits and sell the Ghanaian craft to the world.
