Immediate past president of the Chattered institute of Bankers, RT. REV. MR.S Patricia Sappor says the role of the family in the career progression of women is understated.
According to her, a career focused woman cannot do away with her family.
She describes the family as an integral part of life, arguing one cannot live without them.
“The family is very integral in everyone’s life and I don’t see how one can live without the family. As much as possible, the family must be a part of all you do. As women and young people, you you’re your parents support and that of your siblings. So when I got married someone called me and said so far as I have my mother alive, I should have all my children. The family is important in achieving your career as a woman,” she told Rev Erskine on Y107.9FM’s YLeaderBoard Series, a segment of the ‘Myd Morning Radio Show.’
Describing career migration as a part of career advancement, she advises the youth be critical in their consideration.
RT. REV. MR.S Patricia Sappor urges the youth to make sure the new opportunity is in line with their vision. To her, the brand and reputation of the opportunity should be a key deciding factor as having some companies listed on one’s CV can be career suicidal.
“You also need to look at the culture of the organization. You need to know if you have the opportunity to learn and grow. If that does not exist, then you don’t need to go there,” she added.
With family critical to her, the banker advises young professionals against going into opportunities which take them away from their families.
“There are also some institutions where you need some international exposure to fill the roles. Finally you need to look at the money as well,” she championed.
