Renowned sound engineer and music producer, PossiGee, has revealed that one very important criteria for winning a Grammy is to be signed to an international record label.
He made this revelation during a live studio interview with host of Happy FM’s Ayekoo After-Drive show, Dr. Cann, on another entertaining and informative episode of the show.
He said, “Take Angelique Cudjo, Rocky Dawuni, Wizkid or Burna Boy for instance. They are all signed onto international record labels. Let’s take it that you own an international record label and I own a local record label. If my artiste blows so much that I think he deserves a Grammy, do you think they will leave you, the international record label with all your experience, cash flow and big artistes and come for my artiste who’s signed onto a local record label? Never”
Asked why Ghanaians cannot follow this trend so that they can win Grammy’s too, PossiGee explained that it usually has to do with the type of contract that they are asked to sign.
According to him, the contract may request that all the artiste’s hit songs though not produced by the international record label, will now belong to them and this is usually what deters Ghanaian artiste’s from agreeing to that contract.
PossiGee will be having a 3-day mixing and mastering class on the 27th of April through to the 29th at the Holiday Inn, Accra from 10am to 2pm each day. Registration can be done via www.possigee.com/register for a cool rate of GHC550.
