Universities offer many youth the freedom they seek outside the home, especially from stern parents and this leads to many abusing the freedom and ending up wayward.
However, Managing Director (MD) of Hollard Insurance, Daniel Boi who came from a family with a tough dad, did not abuse the freedom he found as a fresher in the university, but rather formed a strong character of discipline and management.
The alumnus of Ghana’s premier university, University of Ghana-Legon, has revealed he was very surprised at the freedom at the university and even though he took advantage of it, he managed to keep the balance.
“I enjoyed the freedom especially coming from a family where my dad was tough. I now could wake up and decide to either attend lectures or not and had someone cleaning for me. Legon however taught me a lot of discipline and management in the face of freedom. I learnt to manage my intellectual and social life. I learnt to tell the guys I’d go to class rather than the JCR.”
Having an intense social life did not take him away from his studies as he planned his day to prevent the two from overlapping.
The Hollard MD made this known in an interview with host of the Myd Morning Show, Rev Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series.
“It was all about setting out your day in a way such that you have time for all the things you love. I attend lectures and go to the library to do some research before coming to the hostel to wash down and go out to have fun and I made sure I never lost track of why I was in school.”
Daniel Boi who sat for his A level entrance exam before gaining admission into legon also learnt to be disciplined and manage his time so he never messed up again.
