DJ for YFM’s Shouts on Y, Quarps Hansen has disclosed that he learned to become a DJ on the job while working as a producer with the Y Sports team on YFM.
In an interview with Foster Romanus on the Late Nite Celebrity Show, the dab hand at Deejaying related how his journey began.
He said: “I joined YFM in 2011 with the sports team. Then I moved to become the producer for Ryse N Shyne. After a while, I started playing the Afropolitan mix. I did the Y Lounge for some time and moved to shouts on Y. I learnt Deejaying on the job. I did not come to Y FM as a DJ. As part of producing sports, you had to play songs so I Iearnt it on the job. And I think I was also influenced by my father. At first, I didn’t think about it but my father used to have CDs of songs. I remember when I was young, anytime I came back from school, he would play songs from Craig David but I wasn’t much into music then; I was just about sports. I think I realize now that it has created a path for me”.
Programmes Manager for YFM, Eddy Blay, commenting on Quarps Hansen’s contribution to the station noted, “Quarps is one of my favourite DJs out there. I mean, he is very eclectic when it comes down to the sound”.
In his new role as the head of music at YFM, Quarps Hansen is immensely contributing to building an exciting and more successful culture that will keep listeners and community entertained and engaged.
Quarps Hansen is the DJ for YFM’s ‘Shouts On Y’ that airs from Monday to Friday, from 12pm to 3pm.
